Poland gets its first
contemporary collection
The National Museum in Krakow is
scheduled to open a new
department of contemporary
Western art this month—the first
devoted to a collection of this
kind in Poland, according to the
institution. Fifty works, loaned
by the Cologne-based,
Polish-born art dealer Rafael
Jablonka, will go on public view
on 29 May. |

Indian
gallery chooses Berlin for first
outlet in Europe
BodhiBerlin, the German city’s
first major gallery dedicated to
contemporary Indian art, open on
3 May 2008. The gallery is near
the contemporary art museum,
Hamburger Bahnhof, close to a
number of recent arrivals,
including Haunch of Venison and
AA Galleries, as the area is
being re-developed as Berlin’s
new art district. |
China gets its first
contemporary art museum
The
opening of the Ullens Center
will transform the local scene
and the West’s understanding of
what’s happening in China. |
China overtakes France
A
set of drawings by Cai Guo-Qiang
was the biggest seller at
auction in Hong Kong in
2007. China is the third
most important art market by
value, replacing France, which
has long held the coveted spot,
after New York and London, a
leading economist has said.
